Coupled Up For Christmas | 2023 Christmas Movies

December 30, 2023 Cassandra Morgan

I got tired of watching the movies on Freevee. So I popped over to Paramount+ to see if they had anything. The first movie I chose was Coupled Up For Christmas, which seems like it might be on some other streaming services too? I’ve found out that I have no idea how streaming services outside of Netflix and Hulu work.

Tiffany (Sara Canning) has decided she is in love with her childhood friend, Brett (Joe Perry). But Brett is currently dating Matilda (Jocelyn Chugg). Meanwhile, Peter (Marcus Rosner) wants to get back with his ex-girlfriend, Lorraine (Skye MacDonald), but she is currently dating Samuel (Everett Dool). Tiffany and Peter agree to pretend-date in order to make their crushes jealous.

This must be the theme for this year because this is not the first movie I have watched with this exact plot. And I don’t understand why any of them think it would work. Ignoring the fact that this is an annoyingly dumb plot, the movie isn’t terrible. Canning and Rosner are decent enough actors to pull off some awful lines. I think the only thing I really didn’t like about the movie is that Tiffany’s sister, Camille (Megan Tracz), gets left out in the cold. She ends up as a fifth wheel to the other two couples, though there is a sort of hint that she is going to end up with the bartender Brie (Colette Nwachi), who keeps stepping in to pair up with Camille in events. But we don’t get an ending to that. Poor Camille is left high and dry.

Rating: Draw me like your Santa man.

Flipping For Christmas | 2023 Christmas Movies

November 13, 2023 Cassandra Morgan

We are back in the real estate game with Hallmark’s Flipping For Christmas. Historically, real estate Christmas movies have not done very well. But this one also adds in house renovation. Will that make it better?

Abigail (Ashley Newbrough) is a realtor who agrees to help her sister, Claire (Natalie Lisinska), with a simple house flip. Little does she know that Claire’s husband wasn’t the only one to inherit said house. Handyman Bo (Marcus Rosner) wants to turn the house into a bed & breakfast. Who will win?

While there were some sweet moments between Abigail and Bo, there were also some weird ones. Shortly after they first meet and start working on the house together, Bo initiates a paint fight with Abigail. Maybe it’s just me but I don’t think I’m starting a flirty fight with someone I just met. A few days later, he does the same thing when they are looking for a Christmas tree. Abigail wasn’t really putting out the “Hey, I like you” vibes but Bo takes every opportunity to play-flirt with her. It felt odd to me.

After all that, I didn’t find the movie unwatchable. Maybe a little uncomfortable but it could have been worse.

Rating: Barely a flip but not a flop

Christmas With A Crown | 2021 Christmas Movies

December 15, 2021 Cassandra Morgan

Once Upon A Time there was a movie. And in this movie was a prince. And the prince didn’t have a stupid made up accent. Just kidding, all royals in all Christmas movies have to sound awful.

Cassie (Lisa Durupt) has returned to her hometown in the hopes of attending the winter festival. However, no one wants to organize it. So Cassie takes it upon herself to plan the entire festival alone. Luckily, tourist Nicolas (Marcus Rosner) has offered to help her. What Cassie doesn’t know is that Nicolas is a prince!

How many different ways can I say a movie is terrible? The prince, the queen, and their two servants have terrible accents. I’m not sure who made this decision but royals don’t have to sound like they have a stick up their butt. Nicolas does drop the accent when he isn’t with the royal people so he sounds normal for most of the movie. But the poor queen (who is played by the amazing Teryl Rothery) has to keep her stupid accent the entire time. I hate it.

Oh, but don’t think it’s only the royals that suck. Durupt is also pretty terrible as Cassie. She overacts every single line. I don’t understand why the director didn’t tell her to tone it down. Ugh.

Stay very far away from Christmas With A Crown. There are plenty of royal-related Christmas movies out there that you don’t need to waste your time or your brain cells on this piece of crap.
